Just after midnight on Wednesday the 10th, a fire broke out at the OVH datacenter in Strasbourg, France. The building where the fire broke out, SBG-2, housed the servers holding player data for 25 Rust servers.
Around 10 am GMT the Rust Twitter account, acknowledged the problem and let players know that affected data would not be recoverable.
At 3 pm GMT Rust had secured new data centers for their servers and started bringing them back online. As of 10 pm, GMT 20 of the 25 affected servers are confirmed back online.
This disaster begs the question of whether companies will start securing their cloud data at two centers to avoid irreversible data loss, such as this one.
